Water leak sensor installed under a sink

AquaSmart Defense — Water Leak Detection & Auto Shutoff

Water damage is one of the most common and expensive problems a homeowner faces. A single burst pipe can cause thousands of dollars in repairs, mold growth, and weeks of disruption. AquaSmart Defense catches leaks before they become disasters by combining smart water sensors with an automatic shutoff valve that stops the flow the moment moisture is detected.

How It Works

The system has three components that work together in seconds:

  1. Smart sensors are placed in high-risk areas: under sinks, near water heaters, in basements, and behind washing machines. They detect water on contact and send an instant signal to the hub.
  2. The hub receives the signal and immediately commands the shutoff valve to close. This happens in under 5 seconds from detection to valve closure.
  3. The automatic shutoff valve is installed on your main water line. When triggered, it physically stops all water flow to the house, preventing any further damage.

You get a real-time alert on your phone telling you exactly which sensor triggered and that the water has been shut off. You can then investigate, fix the issue, and remotely reopen the valve once it is safe.

Features

Real-Time Alerts

Push notifications to your phone the moment water is detected. Know about a leak whether you are at home or across the country.

Automatic Shutoff Valve

A motorized valve on your main water line closes automatically when a leak is detected. No manual intervention required.

Home Assistant Integration

Full integration with your Home Assistant dashboard. Create automations like shutting off water when everyone leaves the house, or turning off the water heater if a leak is detected near it.

Battery Backup

Sensors and the valve controller include battery backup. If power goes out, the system still detects leaks and shuts off water for up to 48 hours.

Installation Process

Installation takes about 2-3 hours and includes:

  1. Site assessment to identify high-risk leak zones in your home
  2. Installation of the shutoff valve on your main water line
  3. Placement of sensors in key locations (typically 4-6 sensors depending on home size)
  4. Hub setup and WiFi configuration
  5. Home Assistant integration and automation setup
  6. Testing of the full system to confirm detection and shutoff work correctly

Pricing

$299 install + $25/mo monitoring

The install fee covers the shutoff valve, hub, 4 sensors, and full setup. Additional sensors are $35 each. The $25/month monitoring includes cloud alerts, system health checks, and remote valve control from anywhere. Prefer to self-monitor? You can skip monitoring and pay $95/hr for on-site support when you need it.

Where to Place Sensors

Common installation locations include:

AquaSmart vs. Dumb Sensors

Basic water sensors from Amazon cost $20-40 and do one thing: beep when they get wet. That only helps if you are home and within earshot. If you are at work, on vacation, or asleep, a beeping sensor on the floor does nothing to stop water from flooding your house for hours.

AquaSmart Defense detects the leak, shuts off the water automatically, and alerts your phone regardless of where you are. The difference between a $30 beeping disc and AquaSmart is the difference between catching a leak early and coming home to a flooded house.
